The Most Effective Herbal Blends for Depression

The herbal tea blends can be used to help overcoming depression - especially for people with mild to moderate depression. You can find the herbs you need at almost any Health Products Site or Store. But the best thing you can do is to grow your own herbs; nothing can replace the fresh herbs grown in your garden.

The herbal blends are usually more effective and preferred for herbal treatment for depression. Herbal tonics can be prepared with consideration to the specific situation of the person who is taking it. Since the herbs may interact with prescription medicines, make sure you consult with your physician before starting on any natural cures for depression.
You need to use the herbal teas over 2 - 3 days to give them time to work.

Feel Good Tea
Herbal tea imageThis tea encourages a general feeling of well-being
• 3 parts lemon balm
• 1 part lavender
• 1 part peppermint
• 1 part St. John's Wort
• 1 part marjoram
• 1 part rose petals
Combine all ingredients. To prepare the tea, use 1 to 2 teaspoons of herbal blend per cup. Pour boiling water over the herbs and allow standing for 5 to 10 minutes. Drink up to three cups per day before meal.

Mighty Energiser Herbal Tea
When the depression is accompanied with general weakness of the whole body, affecting the nervous system, the following herbal blend is recommended:
• 2 parts kola
• 1 part damiana
• 1 part lavender
• 1 part oats
• 1 part rosemary
Combine all ingredients. Take 1 teaspoon of the herb blend, place into a suitable sized tea pot and pour one cup of boiling water. Allow this to stand for 10-15 minutes. Drink 1 cup three times per day about 30 minutes before meal.

Medium  Energizer Herbal Tea
Where there is not so much asthenia involved use the following mixture:
• 1 part kola
• 1 part lime (linden) blossom
• 1 part skullcap
Combine the ingredients. Take 1 teaspoon of the herb blend and place into a suitable sized tea pot and pour on one cup of boiling water. Allow this to stand for 10-15 minutes. Drink 1 cup three times per day. If a more powerful approach is needed then Valerian may be added to the mixture.

‘Pick-me-up' Rosemary-Sage Tea
This tea provides a powerful boost of energy, mood elevation and general health enhancement without the unwanted side effects.
• 1 part rosemary
• 1 part sage
Combine the rosemary and sage into tea pot and add two cups of boiling water. Allow this to stand for 5 minutes. Strain out the herbs. Drink 1 cup up to three times per day.

How do natural remedies for depression work? It works by slowing the body's absorption rate of norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine, the three neurotransmitters affecting depression. Because of this effect, the body has additional time to convey messages to the brain.
